Ruth Elizabeth Lynch

July 7, 1922 — December 24, 2018

Ruth Elizabeth Lynch, 96, a long time resident of Colonial Heights VA and more recently of the Petersburg Home for Ladies, died peacefully in the company of her family on December 24, 2018. Born in Centralia Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Frances Juanita Wesner. She married Ruff Franklin Lynch of Amelia Virginia and together they raised three children. She was an army wife who made a loving home for her family, no matter where in the world her husband was stationed. She was a life-long member of Community of Christ and helped establish the Chester Congregation. She faithfully served as the Assistant Financial Officer for over 40 years. She was active in the Church as a youth Sunday school teacher, providing popular dishes at pot luck lunches and decorating the Church for Christmas services. She loved to travel and spent time in Europe and “every state, except two.” She took pleasure in her home and gardening. An avid bowler, she bowled well into her 70’s and enjoyed both the game and the friendships made. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maj. Ruff F. Lynch (RET.); sister, Mary Jane Dilg; and brothers, Earl and Charles Wesner. She is survived by her children, Janet Lynch and husband, Michael Likavec of Chester VA, Carolyn Older and husband, Lyle of Monte Sereno CA, David Lynch and wife, Abby of Colonial Heights VA; grandsons, Adam Lynch and wife, Kelly Joyce of Ozark AL and Tyler Lynch of Rock Hill SC; sister, Edith Holsapple of Odin Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community of Christ, c/o Fred Wenzel, 13904 North Chase Place, Midlothian, VA 23112 or The Petersburg Home for Ladies Fellowship Fund at 311 S. Jefferson St, Petersburg, VA 23803.
