Ruth Gayle Brockwell Oakley

Ruth Gayle Oakley, 77, of Carson, VA, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015, following a lengthy illness. Born on February 21, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Alvin S. and Ruth Vest Brockwell; and was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy S. Brockwell. She was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Carson, VA and worked as a clerk at the U.S. Postal Service until her retirement in 2001. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Woodrow Oakley, Sr. She is also survived by her daughters, Carolyn O. Pecht (Ronnie), Shirley O. Wilkinson (Robert) and Terry L. Oakley, and son John W. Oakley, Jr. (Michelle); grandchildren Robert M. Wilkinson, III (Mary), Tara Pecht Johnson (Lin), John Blake Wilkinson, Ronald L. Pecht, Jr. (Tiffany), Mark Britton Hughes (Katie), Paul Brandon Hughes (C.J.), Ryan Oakley Pecht (Amanda), Bradley Woodrow Hughes (Stacy), John W. Oakley, III (Becca-fianceé) and Matthew Douglas Oakley; great-grandchildren Savannah, Owen and Annabelle Johnson, Olivia, Hannah and Colton Pecht, Tripp and Charley Pecht, Hayley, Mary Grace, Jenna and Ava Wilkinson, and Garrett Hughes; sisters Nancy B. Hawks and Donna B. Mitchell (Billy); sisters-in-law Janet P. Brockwell, Ethel O. Harrison, Frances O. Pennington and Gale O. Titmus (Richard); brother-in-law Roy W. Lewis; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2015 at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home-Petersburg. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with the Reverend Hugh Mayes officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum Chapel at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to Ms. Emma Griffin, Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson and Ms. Evendia Bailey and all others for their loving and dedicated care during her lengthy illness.
