ELLIS, Ruth Louise Poole of Dinwiddie, born May 23, 1931, died peacefully on January 20, 2011 after a valiant 10 year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Washington Poole and Josephine Griffin Beeman. She is survived by her husband, Elmer Rudolph Ellis, sons, Douglas R. Strother, Jr. and wife Gwynne of Florence, SC and Jack Powers Dance II and wife Deborah of Mataoca, VA; grandsons, Douglas R. Strother III and wife Tammy of Matoaca , VA and Bryan Dance of Petersburg, VA; granddaughter Elizabeth Claire Strother (deceased), great-granddaughters, Andi Suzanne Nicole Strother, and Lani Elizabeth Jane Strother; stepson Rudy Ellis; stepdaughters Karen Ellis and Patty Timperio; and brothers Richard Allen Poole and Ernest Washington Poole, Jr. Mrs. Ellis attended Thomas Dale High School and was a graduate of Petersburg General Hospitalâ??s School of Nursing. She was also the first president of the Opti-Mrs in Enon, VA and a principle board member of the New Point Chapel in Mathews, VA. This devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend will be fondly remembered for her cooking, her love of the Chesapeake Bay, her devotion to family and friends and her love of family gatherings. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 24th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Rev. Donna Mott and Mr. Gary White officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
