Ruth P. Vtipil Dalton, born March 22, 1933 in Hopewell, VA, passed on Friday, August 12, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Joseph Parker and Eva Lee Garner Parker; and her husband, William Allen Dalton. Ruth was lovingly raised by her Aunt Pattie and Uncle Jimmy Farmer. In 1974 she was appointed as a magistrate for the 6th Judicial District and then also the 12th Judicial District. She retired in 2004 but continued to work as a property manager for various apartment complexes. She was a lifetime member of the Hopewell Emergency Crew and served as its Board President for one year. Ruth served on the Hopewell Red Cross Board and volunteered at John Randolph Hospital. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Hopewell and the Prince George Women’s Club. She especially loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and sharing stories of her life. She is survived by her children, Donna L. Vtipil, Laura A. Vtipil, Donald P. Vtipil, Jr. and wife, Deborah L. Vtipil, David E. Vtipil and wife, Melanie L. Vtipil, Bruce Dalton and wife, Andrea Dalton, and Mark Dalton; grandchildren, Lisa Mitchell, Brad Mitchell, Amanda Vtipilson and husband, Cejae, Andrea Vtipil Rankin and husband, William, Allison Dalton, Emma Vtipil, Hailey Vtipil and Anna Vtipil; great-grandchildren, McKinley Mitchell, Kassie Mitchell, and newly arrived Sophia Rose Vtipil Rankin. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, August 16 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, August 17 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Appomattox Cemetery.
