Sadie Beasley Shrader

Sadie Beasley Shrader, 86, of Petersburg, Va., died Wednesday, January 27, 2016. She was born to the late John and Sarah Beasley, Feb. 16, 1929, in Buckingham, Va. Sadie graduated from Appomattox High School in 1946 and attended college in Washington, DC for a year before moving to Lynchburg, Va. There she met and married her husband, the late Harry B. Shrader, Sr. in 1952. Since Harry was in the Army, Sadie lived in many places, including 6 years in Germany, before finally settling in Petersburg, Va. in 1973. Sadie was a devoted mother and homemaker for the greater part of her life, and was a very giving and generous person. She deeply loved her husband and children, and always put them before herself. Her ever-present sense of humor never failed to charm, even during tough times. Sadie was an avid reader and a bird watching enthusiast. She also enjoyed travelling, even with four children. Sadie is survived by three children, Debbie Jean Rathien, of Petersburg, Va., Richard Shrader, of Concord, NC, and Diane Vaughn, of Petersburg, Va. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Harry “Butch” B. Shrader, Jr. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, 103 S. Adams Street, Petersburg, Va., on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at 2 pm. Sadie loved flowers, so if you would like to send some, please do. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
