Robens, Sallie Ora Bland, 92 of Chester, Va., passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in her home with her daughters by her side. Sallie was born on August 18, 1919 in Halifax, North Carolina to Offie and Lessie Bland. She was one of 13 brothers and sisters. As a young adult, Sallie moved to Newport News, Va., where she met and married the love of her life, Charles Cutchins Robens. Sallie and Charles raised five children together and enjoyed a beautiful and full 49 years together before Charles passed away. Sallie had a passion for fishing her entire life until she could no longer do so. One of Sallieâ??s greatest pleasures was cooking for her family. She loved vegetable and flower gardening. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed very much her hobbies of knitting and crocheting. Sallie loved making items for her family and friends. For as many years as anyone can remember, Sallie could be found each and every weeknight in front of her television from 7-8 p.m. watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Sallie was a member of Enon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robens; her grandson, J.C. Sgavicchio; her parents, and 10 of her brothers and sisters. Sallie is survived by her daughters Sallie Walpole (Wayne), and Ann Robens Sgavicchio; her sons Charles Robens (Charlotte), Steve Robens, (Karen), and Ernie Robens (Nita). Other survivors include 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Kreicar, Mildred Lochstampfor (Johnny), and four-legged faithful pal, Murphy. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00 at J.T. Morriss & Son, Chester Chapel. Interment to immediately follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
