Sallie Rowland

Sallie Daulton Rowland, 94, of Hopewell, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell. Mrs. Rowland was predeceased by her parents, Samuel B. and Laura Davis Daulton of Dinwiddie County, numerous brothers and sisters, and her husband, Joseph Elson Rowland. Mrs. Rowland is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Clarence A. â??Jackâ? King of Prince George; three sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin and Kay Rowland of Prince George, Gene and Mitzi Rowland of Troy, Ala., and Joe and Gale Rowland of Chesterfield; five grandchildren, Lisa, Candy, Sharon, Mike and David; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Abner Daulton, who is 102, of Dinwiddie County; two sisters-in-law, Odene Daulton and Ella Watkins Daulton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rowland was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, and friend. She valued her family and friends most in life, and was considered a second mother to many who sought out her motherly love and advise. To many of the neighborhood children, she was known as â??mama.â? Mrs. Rowland had a wonderful sense of humor and, during her lifetime, lifted the spirits of so many with her witty, cheerful personality. She also loved the outdoors, and working in her flower beds. She could name each flower and plant that ever beautified her yard or porch. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 820 W. Broadway. Burial will follow at Bermuda Gardens Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Enon. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today, Aug. 26, at the funeral home.
