Sally Sayoko Noland

Sally Sayoko Noland, 90, of Prince George, VA, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016. Born on January 5, 1926 in Toyohashi, Japan, she was one of 7 children. She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Martin A. Noland, an army veteran of WW2, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Mrs. Noland, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother was an accomplished artist and art teacher of more than 50 years, who was featured in several articles in local papers during the 70's, 80's, and 90's. She was a member of the Petersburg Area Art League and participated in many area art festivals over the last 30 years. She was noted for her distinct Japanese and oriental art which included water colors, ceramic and wood sculpting, and pinch paper art. She studied art at Richard Bland, was under the tutelage of a well-known Chinese artist, and was a student of art in Japan. Mrs. Noland is survived by two sons, Gene Noland and wife, Therese, and Jerry A. Noland and wife, Wanda; three grandchildren, Michael Noland and wife, Michelle, Jenna N. Kolesar and husband, Brad, and Michelle N. Hayes and husband, Adam; one great granddaughter, Avery E. Kolesar; step grandson, Rob Hughes and wife, Jamica; sister-in-law, Marcella Blake; and nieces Barbara McAdams and her husband, Doug, and Sue Noland. A graveside service will be held at Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prince George Fire, EMS and Emergency Management, P.O.
