Samuel F. “Sam” Hamilton, 72, of Richmond, VA. passed away following a sudden illness on May 12, 2015.
Formerly of Parkersburg, Sam graduated from Parkersburg High School and West Virginia University, Parkersburg Center. He served in the United States Air Force, being stationed in the Azores Islands and March Air Base in Riverside, California. He had a career in industry, retiring from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals as a computer programmer in 2006.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed his faithful companions, his three golden retrievers, Stuie, Teddy and Charlie.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diane McGuire Hamilton, son, Jay Michael, daughter-in-law Maria Hamilton, and adoring grandson, Brady, all of Powhatan, Va., daughter, Jennifer of Charlottesville, Va. and lifelong friend, Steve Neely, of Grove City, Ohio.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Millard Taylor Hamilton and Mary Kathryn Gibson Hamilton and a brother, Michael.
The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, a memorial gift can be made, in Sam’s name, to the First Tee of Richmond and Chesterfield County, 7501 Boulders View Drive, Suite 120, Richmond, VA. 23225 or the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Robin Starr Humane Center, 2519 Hermitage Road, Richmond, VA. 23220.
A memorial celebration of Sam’s life will be held at the family home on May 26th followed by a reception in Parkersburg to be announced at a later date.
