Samuel Shelton Horne, 93, of Emporia, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin T. Horne, Sr. and Leah P. Horne; his first wife, Elizabeth P. Horne; and brothers, Richard Horne and Benjamin T. Horne, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Lola C. Horne; son, Meade P. Horne and his wife, Patricia of Emporia, VA; daughters, Elizabeth H. Vining and her husband, Peter of Williamsburg, VA, and Patricia S. Horne of Raleigh, NC; grandson, Berkley Horne and his wife, Emily; granddaughters, Murphy H. Fletcher and her husband, Milton of Asheville, NC and Caitlin Vining of Richmond, VA; and great-grandson, Burwell Horne of Richmond, VA. Sam served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Hokie of the VA Tech Class of 1946. Sam was the owner of E. M. Parham Lumber Co. and Horne Real Estate & Whitehorne Homes. He was known for his delicious vegetable soup. Sam loved to travel and he and his wife, Lola made many trips over the years. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery.
