Sandor (Sandy) Meri, 67, of Hopewell died February 7, 2010. Sandy was born in Gyorzamoly, Hungary in March, 1942. He came to the United States in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution. He was 14 years old. Sandy became a citizen in 1967. He served proudly for 20 Years in the US Army, serving two tours in Vietnam, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 284 in Colonial Heights, Virginia. He was a faithful and cheerful volunteer at the McGuire VA Hospital for over 20 Years. Sandy is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judith Meri. He also leaves to cherish his memory, a brother, Janos Meri of Hungary. Several nieces and nephews; Janos Meri, Jr. and Csabo Meri, Hungary, Doris Mery, Switzerland, Giuseppe Salnitri, Italy, Mark Edwards and Jason Edwards, Clinton, NC, and Selena Crumpler, Topsail Island, NC. The family will receive friends from 3PM to 5PM Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with a service to follow at 5 PM. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Fisher House at McGuire VA Hospital, 1201 Broad Rock Blvd. Richmond, VA 23249, or to your favorite charity. Sandyâ??s laughter, his love of life, and his fun loving spirit will be missed by his family and friends.
