Sandra Anne Christoffel Young, age 74, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed from this life on December 16, 2024.
Sandra was born on July 22, 1950, in Hopewell, VA, to Ivan and Marjorie Christoffel. She is survived by her siblings, Larry Christoffel and Carolyn Wilkerson; and by her own six children, Marla DeJesus, of Dunlap, TN, Tanya Taylor, of Prince George, VA, Virginia Young, of Hopewell, VA, Pamela Dunlap, of Arkadelphia, AR, Heidi Prewitt, of Sitakunda, Bangladesh, and David Young, of Jay, OK; as well as, eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; and one precious grandchild.
In 1950, Sandra was born the third and youngest of three siblings, a blessed 'oops.' As a young lady, she married Richard Young, the father of her six children. Sandra raised her five daughters and her son with love and devotion. She worked as a secretary during the day and took extra jobs at night to get by. Even though she struggled, her devotion to her children and the people she cared about never faltered.
When her children were grown, she had more time for fun, like playing the piano and giving music lessons. She soaked in the Caribbean once and ferried her grandchildren to karate lessons a zillion times. She showed her love in so many ways and made everyone around her feel loved and safe. She was once described as a rose in a field of thistles.
When her own parents were declining, she selflessly left her own home and moved in with them to care for them. And when their home became her own, she let it remain the family hub for weekend and holiday get-togethers. It was not uncommon to see her among a group of her children and grandchildren, laughing and just enjoying each other's company.
Sandra's recent years have been a time for grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and for encouraging her children in their lives, work, and missionary endeavors. She was an active member of the Petersburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church and also an active part of church life at the Petersburg Monumental Baptist Church. She loved playing the piano every week for both churches. She was so devoted that, when hours from death, she worried that they might feel let down.
She adored Trump and was thrilled at the thought that he would take the helm of the country soon. She looked beyond this to a time when Jesus will take the helm of this planet and make all things new.
Sandra blessed all in her path. She was well loved and will be missed.
