Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Fowlkes Hunt Driskill, moved to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 2, 2006. She was born in Dinwiddie County and was the daughter of the late Sterling Edward and Lucy Heath Fowlkes. She was preceded in Glory by both husbands, James Nolan Hunt in 1965 and Stewart Phillip Driskill, Sr. in 1987, the first Sheriff of Colonial Heights, VA. Mrs. Driskill attended public schools of Dinwiddie Co., Smithdeal Massey Business and Commercial Law School in Richmond and graduated with Christian Education Diploma from Southern Baptist Extension Seminary in Nashville, TN. As an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Mrs. Driskill served in many positions including former deaconess, financial secretary, organizing a senior program and Adult Bible School. In her excitement to share the Lord with others, Mrs. Driskill was a teacher with the Chesterfield Colonial Heights Jail Ministry as well as a Sunday School teacher for over 60 years. During that time she taught the Phebean, Lydia and Dorcas classes and her namesake, Elizabeth Driskill Sunday School Class. Mrs. Driskill also filled several VBS responsibilities on the Petersburg Baptist Association. One of Mrs. Driskill?s Christian sisters nominated and had her registered in the Baptist Historic Society, Women?s Archives, University of Richmond, Richmond, VA. Mrs. Driskill had been a resident of Colonial Heights for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Colonial Heights unit of the AARP. Mrs. Driskill is Past President of the Colonial Heights Federated Women?s Club in which she was still an active member. As a cancer survivor, she served many years in the Education Department of the American Cancer Society. She was also a former member of the Colonial Heights Historic Society and served on the early Ft. Clifton Committee. She is survived by four step-children, Stewart Phillip Driskill, Jr. and wife Jean, Carl G. Driskill and wife Liz and Joyce D. Harrison all of Matoaca and Rose D. Harmon and husband, Jerry of Prince George; grandchildren, S. Phillip Driskill, III and wife, Sharon, Eric Driskill and wife, Marie, Tamara D. Francis and husband, Floyd, Carl Grant Driskill, Jr. and wife, Stacy, Daniel Driskill, Brenda H. Ryan and husband, Tom, Dr. Michael Harrison and wife, Lisa all of the tri-cities area, Lynn H. Spinner and husband, David of Hanover, VA, Dana H. Nichols and husband, Darrell of Halifax, VA; 17 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 6th, at 11 AM at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Parker, pastor officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 PM Sunday, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
