Sarah Elizabeth Garner

Sarah Elizabeth Garner, 76, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Born in Fayettville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Curtis, Sr. and Elizabeth Davis Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Paul Garner; and brother, Charles Curtis Smith, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Beth Snead (David), Cathy Stutz (Ricky), Joy Parlow, and Lynne Hanes (Scott); grandchildren, Lindsey Snead (Christian Johnston), Jordyn Stutz, Jacob Garner, Emily Snead, Jessica Stutz, Joshua Hanes, Lucas Parlow, Samantha Parlow, and Sydney Snead; great-granddaughter, Emerson Johnston; sister, Linda Saunders; nephews, Randy Saunders and Chris Saunders; nieces, Margaret Saunders and Alli “Holly” Laumer; and very close friend, Brian Silverman. Sarah was employed with the State Corporation Commission, Bureau of Insurance retiring after many years of service. Sarah was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Petersburg. She enjoyed being active with her church family serving as an Elder, choir member and participating in the Interfaith Adult Day Care Center. Sarah was a loving person and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July, 6, 2018 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 Walnut Blvd. Petersburg, VA 23805. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the church. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Southlawn Memorial Park.
