Sarah Hopkins Taylor, 92, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at her residence. She was born on September 4, 1920 in Rockingham, NC to the late Samuel and Dora Hopkins. The family moved to Petersburg when she was two years old and opened a store near their cousins, the Sandlers. She graduated from Petersburg High School in 1938, attended the College of William & Mary and RPI (now VCU). Sarah married Sam Taylor in 1942 and worked as the Secretary Treasurer of Taylor’s Store, Inc. She was a lifetime member of Congregation Brith Achim and Sisterhood. She liked dancing, traveling, playing golf and Mah-Jongg and loved Virginia Beach. Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel M. Taylor; sister, Evelyn Kayne; and brother, Dr. Julius Hopkins. She is survived by her two sons, Richard B. Taylor and wife, Candy and Douglas S. Taylor and wife, Helen; three grandchildren who affectionately called her “Ahmoo”, Alexa, Anna and Andrew; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers, Lillian, Otelia, Elizabeth, Esther and Delores. All services will be private.
