Sharon Kay Matherly

Sharon Kay Matherly, 70, of Colonial Heights, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 7, 2016. Born on August 30, 1945, in Mount Jackson, Va, she was the daughter of the late Paul Hamilton Smoot and Celia Kathaleen Smoot. She worked in the Criminal Records Department for the Virginia State Police for over 25 years. She enjoyed tending to her many flower gardens and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Hartsell; grandchildren, Alyssa Davis, Kaitlyn Hartsell, and Anthony Hartsell; brothers, Ripley E. Smoot (Betty), and Richard H. Smoot; nephews, Ricky Smoot (Cheryl), AI Hendrick; and nieces, Cathy Cannada (David), and Mary Katherine Smoot-Chamberlain (Scott). The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Rd., Chester, VA 23831. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the funeral home with Dr. Ivan Perkinson, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
