Shelby Martin Westmoreland, 62, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at her home in Florida after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born and raised in DeWitt, Virginia, and after marriage lived in Hopewell, Virginia, for 16 years before moving to Florida. She was the daughter of the late Wilson Andrew and Etta Royster Loftis Martin and was preceded in death by three brothers, William L. Loftis, Duke M. Loftis, Frank I. Loftis, and a brother-in-law, Earl T. Elder. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jackie O. Westmoreland, 9675 86th Avenue North, Seminole, Florida, 33777; daughter, Terrie Westmoreland Kawano, and granddaughter, Ashley Murakami, both of Palmdale, California; sister, Merle L. Elder, DeWitt, Virginia; brother, John M. Loftis (Jewel), Church Road, Virginia; three sisters-in-law, Charlotte Marie Westmoreland Savage (Luther), of Williamsburg, Virginia, Joyce E. Loftis, of Petersburg, Virginia, and Evelyn C. Loftis of Richmond, Virginia; brother-in-law, Daniel L. Westmoreland (Patti), of Williamsburg, Virginia. She also leaves nieces, nephews, and many friends including two devoted friends, Judy Doss Tucker and Inez Davis Baldwin. She will be remembered for her love of family, kindness, and sweet manner. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2009 in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 820 West Broadway, Hopewell, Virginia 23860, where services will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jonathan Dundalow, pastor of Western Heights Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chesterfield, Virginia. Condolences may be registered with www.jtmorriss.com
