Shelia Kay Simmons

Shelia Kay Simmons, 76, of Hopewell, VA, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Coy Biesecker and Doris Coldfelter Biesecker and brother, Vincent Coy Biesecker. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, William "Ed" Simmons; grandchildren, Carly Atkinson, and Hannah Atkinson, their mother, Ashley Goodwin, and their father, Spencer Atkinson; loving stepchildren, Terry Moore, Bill Moore, Scott Simmons, Kim Walker, and Gary Walker; step-grandchildren, Ryan Atkinson, Tyler Atkinson, and Nikki Atkinson; great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Moore; as well as numerous extended family and friends. Shelia was an avid fan of Virginia Tech's sports teams. She looked forward every year to her vacation in Maui, Hawaii for 24 years in a row. She was a hard worker and always enjoyed cutting grass, trimming bushes, and working in the yard. With all that hard work she was always careful to have dinner on the table for her family by 5:30 p.m. everyday. Shelia was a loving wife and grandmother. She was affectionately known as "Esha" by her granddaughters. Always a very caring and generous person, she will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege to know her. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery 5930 Centralia Road, Richmond, VA 23237.
