Shelly Sherman Crowder, 46, of Prince George, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles H. Sherman; and her sister, Lisa Erin Sherman. Shelly was an active supporter of the Special Olympics, and was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. Shelly was a graduate of the University of Richmond with Summa Cum Laude honors. She was very strong and courageous and was admired by so many people. She was currently serving as a Police Officer in Prince George County, and had been there 10 years. Shelly organized, coordinated, or was actively involved in the following, Post Explorer Advisor, Certified Crime Prevention Specialist, Fatal Crash Investigation Team, Gotcha! Program Coordinator, Business/ Neighborhood Watch, Prince George Promise Program, Torch Run and Polar Plunge Organizer, Relay for Life Coordinator, Certified Child Safety Technician, Volunteers in Police Service Program Coordinator (VIPS), General Law Enforcement Instructor, and the Photographer for the Community Policing Unit. Shelly was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, James F. Crowder; two sons, Jamie and Joshua Hughes; two step-sons, Keith and Bryan Crowder; her mother, Sandra Jean Hall and husband, Clifford; two sisters, Kimberly S. Barroll, and Stacey Weisner and husband, Mike; numerous nieces, nephews, fellow police officers and friends; and her two beloved dogs, Molly and Zack. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Oakland Baptist Church, 12601 Prince George Dr., Disputanta, VA 23842, with the Rev. Robert Livesay, officiating. Interment to follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Garden, Prince George. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, Region 4.
