Sheryl (Sherry) Ann Gordon Hoover, 74, of Chester, VA, died May 13, 2023. Born and raised in Alexandria, VA, she was the daughter of the late Sydney Gordon and Josephine Gardner. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and devoted many hours showing compassion to people in difficult life situations. She was a 1967 graduate from Thomas Edison High School and accepted her first job as a secretary at the Pentagon with the Department of Defense. In 1971, she had a life changing experience when she surrendered her life to Jesus Christ. She became an active member in Downtown Baptist Church, Alexandria and eventually started working full-time as a church secretary. A talented singer, she traveled around the US in the mid-70's with the gospel music group, Sound of Joy. Sherry spent the last 50 years working in various Baptist church offices and retired as an office manager of Iron Bridge Baptist Church in Chester, VA, after 27 years of service. An avid bowler, who enjoyed day trips to the mountains and Williamsburg, vacationing on the Atlantic coastline, engaging in conversations about the Lord, and working in her garden, she more recently loved spending time with her grandchildren in person or over FaceTime. Sherry is survived by her husband of 42 years, Gary Wade Hoover; son, Aaron Graham Hoover and his wife, Susi, of Eibenstock, Germany; daughter, Hannah Joy Roddy and her husband, Michael, of Los Angeles; and grandchildren, Eleni and Ezra Hoover.
