Shirley Haddon Micklem, 68, of Petersburg, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2004, at Johnston Willis Hospital from complications of smoking-related emphysema and coronary artery disease. She was the daughter of the late Charles Forrest Haddon and Teresa Cutchin Haddon Irwin. Born November 15, 1935 in Dinwiddie County, she was a successful business woman who served the community for over 30 years as a professional electrologist. Baptized at First Baptist Church in Petersburg at the age of 13, she was a faithful member for over 50 years. She loved the Lord and trusted in Him; she prayed, read her Bible, and kept a devotional at her side. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband James “Jim” Trahern Micklem, Jr.; three loving children, Lizanne Gates Furrow of Dinwiddie County, Marie Gates Janjua of Tampa, Florida, and Russell Bertrand Gates of Colonial Heights; nine grandchildren, Franklin Bruce Furrow, Charles Jeffrey Furrow, Rosanne Marie Furrow, Asim Geoffrey Rehman Janjua, Rani Teresa Janjua, Jamil Alexander Janjua, Diana Brooke Gates, Kaylana Suzanne Gates and Mahala Jade Gates; and one great-granddaughter, Kayla Rhenae Furrow. She also leaves behind her beloved stepmother, Virginia H. Bragan; four sisters, Penny Edwards, Betty Mayes, Brenda Reese and Sue Henshaw; and a brother, Charles Forrest Haddon, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends tonight at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home at 7:00 – 8:30 pm. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, January 21, 2004, 11:30 am. at First Baptist Church on Washington Street. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery. In memory of Shirley, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
