Shirley Barnes Rogers, 84, of Carson, and most recently of Midlothian, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2018. She was born in Dinwiddie to the late Myron Barnes and Mattie Hawkins Barnes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Rogers, Jr.; grandson, James Rogers; and sister, Emma B. Pulley. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Joan R. Kernodle (Bill); son, Jeffrey N. Rogers (Kathi); grandchildren, Shea Kernodle (Jessica), Christopher Rogers, and David Rogers; great-grandchildren, Lawson Kernodle and Holden Kernodle; sisters, Hope Barnes and Barbara Fowler; and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was a faithful, longtime member of Fort Grove UMC, Stony Creek. She was employed with the post office as Assistant Post Master for many years. Shirley enjoyed working on crafts with her husband as often as she could. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mabel Blackwell, longtime caregiver to Shirley. She will be truly missed by her family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
