Shirley Dennis Stevens, born on September 29, 1921 in Ettrick, VA, went to be with his heavenly father on Monday, March 8, 2010. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired after 37 years of civilian service in the Commercial Accounts Department of Fort Lee U.S. Army Base. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Stevens and Gladys Stevens Edwards. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances Minetree Stevens of Chester; sons, Robert Stevens (Jean Stevens) of Hopewell and Michael Stevens (Rose Stevens) of Orange City, FL; daughter, Janet Taylor (Robert Taylor) of Powhatan; brother, William Stevens, Jr. (Christine Stevens) of Colonial Heights; sister, Nancy Mizelle of Sierra Vista, AZ; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 6 to 7:30. A private service will be held at a later date.
