Sophia Lee Garcia Studer

Sophia Lee Garcia Studer, 13, of Chesterfield, VA joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 8, 2021. Born in Okinawa, Japan she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Brian and JoAnna Studer; her uncle, Greg Garcia; and her maternal great-grandfather, Bill Sexton. Sophia came to know Christ at a young age. She attended a Mother-Daughter Bible Study with the ladies of the Heights Baptist Church, was a member of the Youth Group at Christian Life Church and was attending Journey Christian Church. Sophia was a bright burst of sunshine and commanded the room with her presence. She was creative, respectful, and kind, making lasting impressions on her numerous friends and educators while attending C.C. Wells Elementary, Carver, and Matoaca Middle Schools. She was an honors student and athlete having swam for Wood-Dale and Quest swim teams, pitched and played 1st base for the C.C. Wells Lady Warriors softball team, and learned to play golf at The First Tee. Sophia excelled in her love of volleyball starting her career on the sand courts of Chester Recreation Association, playing with the Carver Middle School Club Team, and then earning spots on the 13U and 14U Zonal travel teams for the Richmond Volleyball Club. Sophia’s favorite hobby was making her teammates, friends, and family laugh. She also enjoyed drawing and painting, designing jewelry, making Tik Tok videos, Snapchatting and Facetiming with friends, singing a familiar song in the funniest way possible, and having sleepovers, or rather, staying awake all night laughing and making videos with her friends. We miss her infectious smile, big hugs, playful spirit, and loving, outgoing personality. Sophia is survived by her loving parents, Shane and Michelle Studer; her brother, Logan Studer; maternal grandparents, Hector and Leanna Garcia; maternal great-grandmother, Darlene Sexton; her aunts, Stefanie Garcia and Shawn Cantwell (Terry); and uncle, Scott Studer (Linda); her cousins, Tabitha, Michelle, Enai and Viktoria; and numerous other loving family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at The Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Randy Hahn, officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the church. The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
