William C. Harrell, Sr., 81, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012 in Dinwiddie. He was a native of Portsmouth, VA and son of the late Walter Carr and Ida Byrd Babb Harrell. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gwendolyn R. Harrell; four daughters, Barbara H. Huff of Portsmouth, Rosemary Harrell of Chesterfield, Linda Hope Carpenter (Gene) of Georgia, Mary Lynn Snead of Hanover County; son, William C. Harrell, Jr. of Dinwiddie; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; along with three sisters, one brother and a host of nieces and nephews. Bill belonged to the Brotherhood of Railroad Carmen of Seaboard RR. He began his lifeâ??s work with Seaboard RR in Portsmouth, VA in 1952 as a car inspector and retired from CSX in Petersburg after 40 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg, sang in the choir, and served as a Deacon and was a member of the Menâ??s Breakfast Group. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Thursday at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A private burial will be held in Washington Memorial Park in Henrico, VA before service. A celebration of life will be held 1:30 pm Friday, March 23, 2012 at First Baptist Church, with Reverend Rob Dawson of First Baptist and Pastor Fred Atkins of Immanuel Baptist officiating In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church, 235 W.
