Sr.. E. Purdie

Gerald E. Purdie, Sr., 86, of Church Road, passed away, Monday, August 23, 2010 at McGuire VA Medical Center. Born in Matoaca, he was the son of the late Edward and Maranda Kersey Purdie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Catherine Purdie and several brothers and sisters. Mr. Purdie served in the U. S. Army Air Corp during World War II and was a retired employee of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company. He is survived by his son, Gerald E. Purdie, Jr. and wife, Teresa; grandsons, Sean Purdie, Jason Purdie, and Daniel Purdie; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Hunter, and Joseph; brother, Buddy Purdie; sister, Diane Aliceberg; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 24th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at East Matoaca Cemetery. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorrriss.com .
