Sr., G. Allen

Larry Grant Allen, Sr., age 60, of Enon, VA., passed away peacefully after a tenacious fight with cancer on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. He was employed by Fluor (Brown and Root) Company since 1977. Larry was very active with local car clubs especially the Saturday Night Cruise In at Hardees in Chester. He had a passion for charity work through the car clubs he belonged to. Larry was a proud member of the Carol Harris Race Team from the late 70â??s through the early 80â??s and enjoyed competing for a National Points Championship during that period. He is survived by his mother, Jo Allen; step mother in law, Janice Ferrell; his soul mate of many years, Cheryl Ferrell; son, Larry G. Allen, Jr. and wife, Berkely Taylor-Allen; daughter, Shannon Purdham; step-children, Duane Ferrell and Janice Lynch and husband, Charles Lynch; grandchildren, Corbin Allen, Carson Allen, and Dalton Purdham; step grandchildren, Brent Smoot, Jessie Uszenski, Lacey Lynch, and Charles Lynch, IV; brothers, Marty Allen and Cleve Allen; and longtime brother, Bill McGonigal. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Luther Allen. The family will receive friends at the Chester chapel of J. T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home on Friday, August 6, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside funeral services will follow on Saturday, August 7, at 10 a.m. in the Bermuda Memorial Park, Enon.
