Richard â??Popâ? Garyantes, Sr., 83, of Petersburg, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012. He served in the U.S. Army for twenty-two years; including World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Mr. Garyantes was the recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with Valor during his time of service. He is a member of the Retired Military Club. Mr. Garyantes is preceded by his parents, William and Elizabeth Quigley Garyantes. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Doris Garyantes; son, Richard C. Garyantes, Jr. of Richmond; daughters, Janet Braddy of Fayetteville, NC, Linda Bruce, and Terri Beasley both of Hopewell; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elaine Green of Ohio; and other loving family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Bermuda Memorial Park in Chester, with Pastor Thurman Collier officiating.
