Sr., L. Roberts

Gilbert L. Roberts, Sr. â??Linkyâ?,93, of Colonial Heights, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents, David A. and Mary Sykes Roberts and his wife and soul mate of 67 years, Mildred Moore Roberts. He was a member and deacon at Second Baptist Church in Petersburg, and was currently a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. Mr. Roberts retired from the Railway Express Agency in Petersburg and was a physical education instructor at the Petersburg YMCA, where he was a member his entire life. He was a loving husband and father. Mr. Roberts is survived by his daughter, Judy Howell and husband, Jerry; son, Gilbert Roberts, Jr. and wife, Lora; grandchildren, Nicole Clendenning, Gilbert Roberts, III, Myra Roberts, Shannon Henderson and husband, Danny, and Meredith Fisher and husband, Jerry and great-grandchildren, Eddie and McKenna Clendenning. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service tonight, Friday, June 4, 2010 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Alex Roberts officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Blandford Cemetery.
