Elmer Madison Barricks, Sr., 92, of Matoaca died Saturday, June 12, 2010, in John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell, from complications of a stroke. He was the widower of Margaret Joyner Barricks. Mr. Barricks, a native of Wakefield, VA, was the son of the late Tobie J. and Minnie Holloway Barricks. He had been a member of Matoaca Baptist Church for 75 years. Mr. Barricks was an automotive salesman in Petersburg for many years having been employed by Master Chevrolet, Rountree Pontiac/GMC, as well as the Volkswagen dealership when it first opened in Petersburg. He was a retired employee of East Coast Oil Corp. He served in the Medical Detachment #1 Corps, 6th Army in the Philippines and Japan in WWII and received 5 service medals including the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Barricks is survived by his son, Elmer M. â??Buddyâ? Barricks, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Faye of Brunswick County; daughter, Joyce B. Ricks and son-in-law, T. Dee Ricks of Colonial Heights; one sister, Theresa B. Carson of Dinwiddie; 9 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by special friends, Truman and Susan Smith. He was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Barricks, two sisters, Merleen Prichystal and Viola Blondin and a brother, James Preston Barricks. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 from 7 to 8:30 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the funeral home with Dr. John W. Patterson and Rev. Donald Joyner officiating. Burial will follow at East Matoaca Cemetery.
