Henry Vernon Whitley, Sr., 85, of Petersburg passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Vernon Whitley and Jessie Downs Whitley Whichard and his wife, Evelyn Farrish Whitley. Henry served his country in the U.S. Navy during both World War II and Korea. After retirement he worked for civil service at both Bellwood and Fort Lee. Henry was a member of Second Baptist Church and Prince George Masonic Lodge #115. He is survived by his son, Henry V. Whitley, Jr. and wife, Janice of Colonial Heights; daughter, Martha W. Bride and husband, Richard of Colonial Heights; grandchildren, Sarah Whitley of Farmville, Craig Bride and wife, Dawn of Colonial Heights and Kim Bryant and husband, Jonathan of Colonial Heights; great grandchildren, Jessie Bryant, Noah Bryant, Hunter Bride, and Carson Bride all of Colonial Heights and step sister, Hazel W. Anderson of Pine Tops, North Carolina. The family would like to extend special thanks for the love and care Henry received from his family at Greenfield Reflections of Petersburg. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Friday, February 13, 2009 from 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Blandford Cemetery.
