Stacey Leah Shurm, 52, of Hopewell, VA, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born in Atlanta, GA and had been a long time resident of Hopewell. Stacey enjoyed many activities to include cooking, reading, lounging at the beach and spending time with her family and friends. She was employed by the U.S. Government at Fort Lee, VA. Mrs. Shurm was the daughter of the late Alfred and Catherine T. Gravatt Smith. She is survived by her husband, William E. Shurm, Jr., a son, Stephen Edward Shurm, a daughter, Sarah Katherine Shurm, her father-in-law, William E. Shurm, Sr., two brothers, Ronnie Smith and his wife, Tiny, Tim Smith, a sister, Cil Buelk and her husband, Dan, a very devoted family member, Vicki Connelly and a special friend, Patti King, numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 12:00PM Noon in Appomattox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Breast Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Virginia, 23060.
