Stanley Morris Akin Jr., 96, of Chester, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. Stanley was born on November 7, 1926, the son of the late Stanley and Elizabeth Akin of Petersburg, Virginia.
Stanley graduated from Petersburg High School. He served as a lineman in the United States Army during the Korean war. After the war he studied and became an electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 666 for 60 years.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of almost 60 years, Constance Arlene; and his son, Reverend Gary Morris Akin. He is survived by his daughter, Lori Akin Clapp of Hopewell, Virginia; his son, Mark Kevin Akin of Wilmington, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Jennifer Shaylor, Jason Akin, Ian Akin; and four great-grandchildren.
Stanley will be remembered for his quiet nature, kind heart and devotion to his family. He will be greatly missed.
A graveside ceremony will be held at Blandford Cemetery, Friday, May 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to be made to the GoFundMe.com fundraiser for "Ken Burbridge Double Lung Transplant."
The family would like to express their appreciation to Paul and Susan Compton, Wayne and Bonnie Slayden, Wanda Fink and Tina Revell for their loving support and care of Stanley during these last several years. The family would also like to thank The Laurels of Bon Air and Trinity Hospice for their loving care of Stanley during the end of his final journey. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
