Stanley “Possum” Carroll Bishop, 72, a life-long resident of Dinwiddie County, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Gordon and Georgianna Bishop; and brother, Gene M. Bishop. Possum served in the Army National Guard, was a member of Dinwiddie Moose Lodge and Central Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company for 20 years, Lucent Technologies for 18 years and Phillip Morris in McKenney for 7 years before retiring. Possum is survived by his daughter, Tabitha Weathers and husband, Doug; 2 granddaughters, Brittany and Lindsey Weathers; 7 brothers, Cecil Bishop and wife, Rose, Vernon Bishop and wife, Vickie, Marvin Bishop and wife, Debbie, Alfred Bishop and wife, Dianne, Roger Bishop and wife, Patricia, John Bishop and wife, Diane and Robert Bishop and wife, Staci; 4 sisters, Marian Rowland and husband, Bobby, Vivian Rowland and husband, Horace, Kathy Boze and husband, Clyde, Diane Davis and husband, Mike; numerous nieces and nephews, and devoted friends, Jeremy and Terri Ellis. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Robert Rowland, officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park.
