Stephen A. Harvey, 69, of Chester, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 2, 2016, after a brief illness. Steve was born on August 19, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and grew up in Knightstown, Indiana with his four sisters, Marsha, Linda, Sally, and Betsy. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966-1972. He was stationed at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Va., in 1968, where he met Judith, whom he married on October 25, 1968, at Chester Baptist Church, in Chester, Virginia. He was an active volunteer firefighter at Chester Volunteer Fire Department, Company 1, for 8 years. Many will remember Steve for his 26 years of service as the Logistics Officer with Chesterfield Fire and EMS. In 2008, he was awarded the highest civilian honor as Chesterfield Fire and EMS Civilian Employee of the Year. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Hammond, of Indiana; father and step-mother, Sherman and Louise Harvey, of Indiana; his wife of 49 years, Judith S. Harvey; four sisters, Marsha Richey (Mike), Linda Jordan (Jerry), Sally Molden (Terry), and Betsy Willis (Ronnie), all of Indiana; his son, Joe Harvey and wife, Amanda, and their children, Laura Beth and Guy of Chesterfield; daughter, Angela Gorman and husband, Donny, and their children, J.D. and Hayden. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Thomas Hammond, of New Castle, Indiana. A memorial service will be held, Friday, October 7, 2016, at Chester Baptist Church 11 a.m. The Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son will be handling arrangements.
