Stephen Kopalchick

Stephen Edward Kopalchick, Sr., 55, of Chester, died Friday, July 18, 2008 at his home. He was born in Hopewell, VA, son of the late John and Lillian Jacobs Kopalchick. He was a 1974 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to graduate from Virginia State University in 1997 with an M.A. in Educational Administration and Supervision. Mr. Kopalchick was formerly employed as a plant manager at Berry Plastics. He was a Deacon at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and a member of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests (SNAP). He was an avid runner, weight lifter, and a devoted and loving husband, father, â??Papaâ?, brother and friend. Mr. Kopalchick is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Linda Kopalchick; son, Stephen Edward Kopalchick, Jr., his wife Stephanie, and their children, Isaac, Gideon and Scarlet of Reston, VA; daughter, Kendra Leatherland, her husband Earl, and their children, Solomon, Daelyn, and Adelyn of Buffalo, NY; son, Chad Jarvis, his wife Amy, and their children, Grayson, Gillian, Gavin, and Garrett of Chester, VA; daughter, Wendy Thornton and her children, Aaron, Erica, and Ashly of Chesterfield, VA; son, Michael Goodrow, his wife Judy, and their children, Michael, Joshua, Kristina, and Jason of Midlothian, VA; brothers, Thomas Kopalchick of Prince George, VA; Joseph Kopalchick and his wife, Margaret of Richmond, VA; and John Kopalchick and his wife, Carolyn of Baltimore, MD; parents-in-law, Polk and Lois Johnson of Troutville, VA, their children and extended family. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the church with the interment to follow at Appomattox Cemetery in Hopewell.
