Stephen Ray Slaughter, 39, of Hopewell, VA passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. Born in Hopewell, VA he was the son of the late Edward Ray Slaughter; and was also preceded in death by two uncles, Dwayne Slaughter and Mark Dodson; and his two grandmothers, Norma Dodson and Doris Slaughter. Stephen was an avid fisherman and was a huge Washington Redskins fan. He was a United States Navy veteran and enjoyed serving in the National Guard. He enjoyed working on cars, boats and electronics, drawing, listening to his music and woodworking. Stephen had many loves in life but nothing compared to the love that he had for his kids and his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Rachel Slaughter; three children, Haley Slaughter, Madison and Caleb Ryan; his mother, Jean Dutton; mother-in-law, Ruth Cleotelis (Mark); a sister, Erica Larsen (Gary); one nephew, Gary Larsen; a niece, Lillian Larsen; an aunt, Joann Slaughter (Jimmy Mayes); two brothers-in-law, Randy and Robert Donovan; his four legged baby, Winter; and numerous cousins and friends. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
