Susan Alberta Henn

Susan A. Henn, 67, of Colonial Heights, formerly of Sutherland, VA died Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Born in Columbus, Ohio on April 18, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Marjorie Jordan and stepmother, Blanche Jordan. Susan graduated from Ohio University, magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in education K-12. Susan was preceded in death by her loving parents; her stepmother; her sister, Donna Minniear; and a niece, Renee Weber. She is survived by an uncle and aunt, Bob and Monell Jordan; two brothers, Dennis and Mark Miller; nieces, Cindy Briggs and Denise Abt; a nephew, Allen Minniear; and a brother-in-law, Larry Minniear. Susan is also survived by her “four legged” child, Sophie Jo. A special thank you to the friends who provided compassion, affection and care for Susan in the last few weeks, Pilar Alvarado, Patricia Coureton, Vickie Blackwell and nurses, Heather, Hannah and Shannon from Dunlop House. Susan is also survived by her dearest friends Marti Stevens (Steve), Betsy Hulcher (Greg), Jackie Bonarrigo (Frank) and Charlotte Creamer (Peter). Susan entered the special education field in its infancy in the early 70’s as an LD Self Contained teacher. She was an advocate for her students and touched the lives of many families during her 25 years at Prince George County Schools. Occasionally those relationships developed into lifelong loving friendships as with Andre Peterson and his twin daughters, Zoe and Atira of NY City. Susan’s friends that knew her well will not be surprised that her first word spoken at 11 months was “doggie”. She was compassionate for all animals, but she was devoted to her English Springer Spaniels. A Celebration of Life Mass will be scheduled after the holidays.
