Susan Daniel Walker

September 16, 1956 — June 22, 2022

Susan Daniel Walker (Sunshine, Susie, Suki, anything but Sue!), age 65, of Chester, Virginia, passed on to Glory on 22 June 2022 in Richmond, Virginia.

Susan was born on 16 September 1956 in Hopewell, Virginia, to Drummer Sadler Daniel and Ethel Martin Daniel who preceded her in death; as did her brother, Randy Martin Daniel. She is survived her husband, Norman Grady Walker III; her brother, Mark Sadler Daniel and his wife, Sharidon Daniel; nephew, Drummer Sadler Daniel; and family and friends too numerous to mention. Susan graduated from Hopewell High School in 1974. Go Blue Devils! She also graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1979. Hokie Hokie Hokie Hy, Tech Tech V.P.I.! Sola-Rex, Sola-Rah, Poly Tech Vir-gin-ia, Rah Rah V.P.I., Team Team Team! Susie was a dyed in the wool Hokie to the bitter end.

Susan started her career working for Miss Utility, then moved to the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company, thence Bell Atlantic, thence Verizon, retiring as a Trunk Planning Engineer with 31 years of service.

Susan was a fan of all Hopewell High School sports and when she was in town was likely to be seen there, but her true passion was Hokie football. She attended as many games as possible and followed the team on TV and radio, if she couldn't make the game. Some of her fondest memories were attending Bowl Games with her father, and later with her husband. Her other passion was travel, whether a week at Buggs Island or Myrtle Beach, a cruise, in the Caribbean or Mediterranean, or a River Cruise in Europe, Susan was fascinated with people, places, customs, and local artifacts. She loved to be on the move, even if just a Sunday drive through the country.

She loved her family and her friends from Hopewell. Hopewell was home no matter where she lived. She was a member of the JILTS sorority and looked forward to those activities, as well as class reunions. She was smart, witty, and had an incredible memory for detail, especially the goings on in Hopewell when she lived there. She was a member of The Heights Baptist Church and the Friends in Faith Life Group. If you knew Susan, you loved her. She always had a smile, even when times were tough.
