Susanne Duckworth Johnson

Susanne Duckworth Johnson of Petersburg died peacefully on the morning of Sunday, November 23, 2014, at the Petersburg Home for Ladies. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Johnson. Susanne was born September 14, 1930, to Judge Mitchell and Marjorie Duckworth and spent most of her childhood in Brownsville, TN. She had a heartwarming smile that shone brightly on everyone around her. Susanne loved music, writing, traveling, entertaining, reading - especially English mystery novels - and good conversation. She loved being with her friends and family and had a wonderful sense of humor. Susanne is survived by her sister, Frances D. Dye, three adoring children and their spouses: Mary Bowman Golden, Harwood Mitchell Bowman and his wife Fara, and Christian Bowman Fant and her husband Mike. She had six grandchildren: Ryan E. Christian, Molly C. LiBritz, Robert M. Golden, Harwood M. Bowman, Jr., Wynne A. Bowman, and D. Blake Weston. She had four great grandchildren: Riley and Natalie Christian, and Reagan and Reese LiBritz. A service celebrating Susanne’s life will be held at Christ and Grace Episcopal Church in Petersburg on Saturday, December 6, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in her memory be made to Christ and Grace Episcopal Church or the Petersburg Home for Ladies’ Fellowship Fund.
