Sydney-Grace LeAnn Upton, 18, of Chesterfield, VA, affectionately known as “Gracie” by her family and friends, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Sally Covert; great-aunt, LeAnn McKenna; great-God parents, Doris and Garland Edwards; great-grandmother, Shyrley Pitkin; fur baby brother, Buck Edwards; special friends and loved ones, Kenny Crowder, Andrew Hensley and Griffin Taylor. She was an upcoming Senior at Matoaca High School. Gracie was an exceptional and talented artist and was pursing her passion in cosmetology and had planned to become a dental hygienist. She had an infectious laugh and smile that would light up a room. Gracie was loving, generous, kind, and thoughtful,she would help those in need whenever she could. Her free spirted “goofy” fun loving charismatic personality was full of adventure, optimism, and had a joyful spirit. She loved animals, the beach, traveling, singing in the car with her mother, dancing, Mexican food, especially cheese dip and chips, and most importantly spending time with her family and friends. Gracie is survived by her loving mother, Courtney McKenna and her fiancé, Ken Crowder, II, and his family; her ever present and loving God-Parents, Jeff and Joy Edwards; grandparents, Maggie and Richard Upton, Sr; grandmother, Lauren McKenna; her father, Rick Upton; her siblings, Ryleigh, Randyn, Radley; fur baby brothers, Prince Henry and Sir Walter; aunts, Shyrley Newman (Rick),Terry James (Marty) and their children, Carol Coker; special cousins, Miranda, Anthony and Corbin Brown, Savanna and Whitney Evans, and Rhiannon Upton; uncle, Jimmy Upton (Lynne); numerous cousins, and extended family and friends of the McCarter and Edwards family. Gracie’s family would like to express their appreciation to the Doctors and staff at MCV for their compassion and care shown to her. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Interment will be private.
