Terry Edward Dillard, 59, of Chester, VA passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019. Born in Richlands, VA he was the son of the late Paul B. Dillard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Emily Dillard; a son, Blake Dillard and wife, Alison; one daughter, Heather Dillard and fiancé, Blake; two grandchildren, Carter Dinsmore and Savannah Dillard; his mother, Estelle Dillard; a sister, Kim Inscoe; one niece, Brittany Inscoe; special friends Carol Moore, Ronnie and Darlene Spain and his Old Dominion Insulation family.
Terry went to work for the Old Dominion Insulation (ODI) family in 1983. He worked in every job in the field from Insulation Mechanic to warehouse manager. Terry excelled at every task he was ever given and eventually got promoted to warehouse manager in the mid-80’s. He learned the system over the years and eventually became the most called upon person in the organization. In 2019 there are over 600 employees in towns all over America that counted on Terry on a daily basis. He was always the guy everyone went to when they couldn’t figure out how to do it themselves. He never said no to anyone. Most would refer to terry as the Fixer. If there was a problem he was always part of the solution. He was a friend and confidant to hundreds, worked tirelessly (around the clock when necessary), had a fabulous sense of humor and made jokes with everyone and anyone. He was a great prankster and could always be counted on to carry on a prank for days until the unsuspecting recipient caught on. He loved his wife Emily, their family and his work family at ODI with all of his heart. He had recently been asked to retire by his Doctors, which only meant that he didn’t come in all day, every day. One of his favorite treats was lemon filled and Bavarian cream filled Krispy Kreme donuts. He was often referred to as the “donut destroyer”. He was a many time winner of ODI’s chili cook-off and enjoyed cooking breakfast for his grandchildren. His many pass-times included time at the river with family, horseshoes, fishing, camping, NASCAR, his grandchildren and reading novels and books about history. The ODI family will miss his presence and spirit forever. Good people bring out the good in other people and Terry always brought out the best in everyone he came in touch with.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service until 1:00 p.m.
There will be a celebration of Terry’s life, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019 at ODI office, 12764 Oak Lake Ct., Midlothian, VA 23112.
