Thelma Lacks Martin

Thelma Lacks Martin, 91, of Chester, VA, passed on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Born in Halifax County, VA, she was the daughter of the late, Henry Thomas and Mossie Crabtree Lacks; and was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Wesley H. Martin, Jr.; three brothers, Aubrey, J.W., and Junior; and one sister, Carolyn. Mrs. Martin was a devoted Christian and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She was affectionately known as Ms. Smiley and brought joy and happiness to all who were lucky enough to be around her. She will be remembered by her family as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Martin is survived by her four children, Marylin Walker, Sharon Allen (Raymond), Thomas Martin (Brenda), and Beverly Bizzell (Joe); three grandchildren, Randy Allen, Tabitha Jones (Mike), and Will Bizzell; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Dale Memorial Park, Chesterfield, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the funeral home.
