Theodora â??Teddieâ? Janis Smith departed this life on Friday, April 30, 2010, after a 22 year long battle with breast and bone cancer. Teddie leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Karl Christopher â??Chuckâ? Smith, daughters Heather Smith Friend and Kristie Lynn Smith, son-in-law Jeffrey Friend, grandson Kyle Friend, granddaughter Hailey Friend, sisters Angeline â??Angieâ? Janis Barnes and her husband Jerry, Christine â??Tinaâ? Janis Epps and her husband Hugh, Lorrie Richardson Hones, Dorothy â??Dee-Deeâ? Janis Hubbard and her husband Jay, Camille â??Cammiâ? Janis Agredano, brother Peter Theodore Janis and his wife Dana, sister-in-law Betsy Smith Judkins and her husband Joe, Uncle William Klemm, Aunt Gertrude Klemm and a host of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her precious granddaughter Abigail Friend, her parents Theodore Janis, Lorraine Klemm Janis Richardson, step-father Herman Richardson, step-mother Angie Janis Mendez, brother-in-law Mark Hones, father-in-law Charles â??Big Chuckâ? Smith, and her mother-in-law Gloria Monahan Smith. She also leaves to cherish her memory her special friends from Waverly High School and her devoted neighbors and friends from her home in Pennsylvania.
Teddie was born in Chicago and later moved to California. She was baptized in the Greek Orthodox faith. Her family eventually settled in Waverly, Virginia in the early 1960s and Teddie graduated in 1969 from Waverly High School. She was a Waverly Wildcat cheerleader and a member of Beta Club. Teddie graduated with honors from Radford University in 1974 with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education. She taught kindergarten in Western Virginia before marrying her high school sweetheart, Chuck Smith. She has lived in western Pennsylvania for many years. Teddie was a devoted homemaker and loved to cook and bake for her family and her neighbors. She will be sadly missed.
Teddie was buried at the Old Brick Church Cemetery in Baconâ??s Castle, Va. on May 3, with Reverend Ray Rowland officiating. The family greeted friends at the home of Hugh Epps in Baconâ??s Castle. J.T. Morriss & Son Purviance Chapel handled the arrangements.
