Theresa went home to our Lord Friday, January 11, 2019 following a nearly two-year battle with brain cancer. She was born in Williamsburg, Virginia on April 17, 1962 to Robert “Bobby” and Shirley Howard and lived in the Williamsburg area all the way through high school, considering it her “hometown.” Theresa spent her college years at Virginia Tech as a “Hokie” cheerleader, majoring in fashion merchandising and graduating in 1984.
Even after college, Theresa remained in contact with many friends from her alma mater, Lafayette High School, and in the Williamsburg community. She loved everyone she met, and, with her, no one was ever a stranger.
After marrying the love of her life, Mike, they relocated to the Richmond area where she focused on homeschooling, church and raising her two beloved children, Faith and Jake. If you want to see Theresa’s legacy, just spend some time with her kids!
The church families at Grove Avenue Baptist and Colonial Heights Baptist (The Heights) greatly enriched Theresa’s life, giving her the chance to work with children every Sunday and with the Vacation Bible School ministries each year.
In addition to those mentioned, Theresa is survived by sisters, Jane Howard and Kelly (Brian) Harriss; many aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews and one special dog named Gizmo! She loved everyone on both sides of her family, and she always carried that unique and unconditional spirit of joy — at every one-on-one or family gathering. We’ll all miss her infectious smile, humble heart and wide-breadth of love. It was one of a kind.
Theresa’s earnest desire was for family and friends to know the Christ whom she loves and now serves into eternity. She wants to see everyone again in her new heavenly home; there’s no doubt she’s wearing “Hokie” colors!
The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Colonial Heights Baptist Church (The Heights). A memorial service and brief reception are scheduled for Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Colonial Heights Baptist Church (The Heights).
