Thomas Johnston Claytor, 85, of Petersburg died Sunday, November 14, 2010. A lifelong resident of Petersburg, he was the son of the late William L., Sr. and Annie Wyatt Claytor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William L. Claytor, Jr. and twin sisters, Frances C. Hodnett and Mary C. Staples. Mr. Claytor was a U. S. Army veteran and recipient of The Purple Heart for injuries sustained during WWII. He was a lifelong member of St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church in Petersburg, a career employee of Allied Chemical, and held membership in the Fraternal Order of Eagles and American Legion. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth W. Claytor of Petersburg; nephew, Elwood Thomas Hodnett, Jr. of Springfield, VA; niece, Ellen Staples Goodwyn of Dinwiddie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 16th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday at St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Michael Malone and The Rev. Marjorie Bevans officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 1187, Petersburg, VA 23804.
