Thomas Mitchell Gibbs, 101, of DeWitt, died Saturday, December 11, 2004 in Colonial Heights Convalescent Center. He was born in Wilsons and was the son of the late Peterson Mitchell and Sarah Elizabeth Brooks Gibbs. He was a life-long resident of Dinwiddie County and was a retired tobacco farmer. Mr. Gibbs was a member of Rocky Run United Methodist Church and honorary member of the Dinwiddie County Historical Society. He was declared a centenarian by President George W. Bush, Gov. Mark Warner and the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ladd Gibbs and ten brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving son, Thomas E. Gibbs, Sr. and wife, Nancy of DeWitt; two grandchildren, Thomas E. Gibbs, Jr. of DeWitt and Carol Gibbs Nixon and husband, Sam of Chesterfield; six great-grandchildren, Jennifer G. Boyd and husband, Bobby of Dinwiddie, Jodie G. McMillen and husband, Shawn of Seffner, FL, Thomas E. “Tee” Gibbs, III of Church Road, Brandi R. Nealy of Prince George, Johnathan E. Nixon of Chesterfield and Adam M. Gibbs of DeWitt; one great-great-grandson, Connor G. Boyd of Dinwiddie; brother, Claude A. Gibbs of Wilsons; two sisters, Sarah Ocile Beville of Sutherland and Doris G. Ferrell of Riverview , FL; and numerous nieces, nephews and devoted friends. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Rocky Run United Methodist Church Cemetery with the pastor, Rev. Kitan Petreski, and Rev. Robert Rowland, pastor of Smyrna Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T.
