Thomas Washington Harvey, Jr., 54, also known as “Tommy” or “Big T”, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at his Church Road residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Harvey was a proud employee of Philip Morris, retiring after 31 years of service. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and always enjoyed doing things for other people. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas W. and Elma Jean Davis Harvey; sisters, Sharon Stevens, Brenda Via and Ruby McAllister; and brothers, Eddie Harvey and Eugene McAllister. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Jane Harvey; daughter, Angela Harvey; sons, James Gibbs and wife, Nikki, and Michael Gibbs and wife, Mary Beth; grandchildren, Grayson Harvey and Mattie Jane Gibbs; brothers and sisters, Alan and Wanda Harvey, Lynn Varney, Kitty Stevens, Ricky and Terry Harvey, Sue and Bobby Adcock, Danny McAllister, Sandra Harver, William and Betty McAllister, and Mary Roberts, many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Church Road, VA, with the Reverend James O’Quinn officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity UMC, 4814 Courthouse Road, Church Road, VA 23833.
