Thomas Edward Howerton, 79 of Colonial Heights died July 28, 2004. He was a native of Petersburg and the son of the late James Lee and Barbara Herr Howerton. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. He retired from the Progress-Index after 39 years of service in advertising and in all positions including advertising manager. He was selected in various positions in Virginia advertising association, a past member of Petersburg Lions Club, member of Travelers Protective and Past Exalted Ruler of Petersburg, Elks Club #237 and member of Country Club of Petersburg. He is survived by his wife, Helen Andrews Howerton; three sons, Thomas Barton Howerton & wife Lisa Simmons of Chesterfield Co., Steven Brian Howerton of Rehoboth, DE., Scott Andrews Howerton & wife Kim Groome of Lyndhurst, VA.; three grandsons, Brian S. Howerton, Michael E. Howerton & Hunter E. Howerton; sister, Mary Francis Brockwell of Petersburg. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the Christ & Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Boston M. Lackey, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM tonight at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Crater Community Hospice, 840 W.
