Thomas Traynham Stillman, 82, died suddenly December 31, 2003, in Lancaster, SC. Mr. Stillman, a resident of Chilhowie, VA, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, was retired from the Life Insurance Company of Virginia, was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4667, and was a member of the Chilhowie United Methodist Church. Mr. Stillman was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Margaret Martin Stillman of Petersburg; his parents, Arthur Raymond and Mary Elizabeth Traynham Stillman of South Boston and Hopewell; and brothers Arthur Raymond Stillman, Jr., of Hopewell and John Hammond Stillman of South Boston. He is survived by his wife, Pansy Rollins Stillman, of Chilhowie, VA; sisters Frances Stillman Lee, of Hopewell and Mary Stillman Kirby of Daleville, VA; daughters Margaret Stillman Ford and her husband Richard of Aiken, SC, and Paige Stillman Houchins and her husband Luther, of Chilhowie; two grandchildren, Thomas Carlson Ford of Boston, MA, and Rachel Annette Houchins of Johnson City, TN, and a stepson, Thomas E. Rollins III, of Greenville, TN. Memorial services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at the Chilhowie UMC with Rev. Dr. David St. Clair officiating. Honorary pallbearers include Jack Wheeler, Nick May, Andy Overbay, Bill Rush, Charlie Haynes, Andy Widener, Charles Larry Poe, the members of VFW Post 4667 and his former co-workers at Life Insurance Company of Virginia. The family will receive visitors in the church Fellowship Hall following the memorial service. A graveside memorial service will also be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to Chilhowie UMC, P.O. Box 367, Chilhowie, VA, 24319, or Children’s Place, Inc., 310 Barnwell Ave. NE, Aiken, SC, 29801. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son.
